How Does Stump Grinding Work?

When our team is ready to remove a stump, we bring in a piece of equipment called a stump grinder. This maneuverable machine can fit through tight yard doors and minimizes damage to your lawn. When the machine is in position, the grinding process begins. Slowly, the machine grinds 1 to 4 inch pieces of the stump into tiny shavings down to a depth of 16 inches. Once the stump is ground down below the surface, we further grind about 6-12 inches around the stump to allow for more space, assuming no other obstructions.

After the stump grinding process is complete, the stump is removed and a pile of wood chips and mulch are left behind. We use most of the mulch to fill in the hole and remove the extra so that your newly ground stump is level with your yard. If requested, we can remove all of the mulch from your property and leave a hole in the ground for you to fill with soil and even plant a new tree!
